The U.S. stock market concluded trading on August 8 with a broad-based rally. Notably, the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.47%, the S&P 500 index climbed 0.78%, and the Nasdaq index surged 0.98%, setting a new record high. Large-cap technology stocks generally led the way, with Apple's share price soaring more than 4%, while Google, Tesla, and Netflix each registered gains exceeding 2%. Nvidia advanced over 1%, and Meta and Microsoft also posted modest gains. Among popular Chinese stocks, performance was mixed. NIO Inc. gained more than 3%, XPeng Inc. approached a 3% increase, and Li Auto Inc. and Pinduoduo saw slight upticks. Conversely, Bilibili and iQIYI declined by more than 1%, and JD.com, Alibaba, and Baidu also suffered losses of over 1%.
