The AI startup Perplexity has come under fire for allegedly violating website regulations by circumventing interception measures to scrape content on a large scale. This includes tactics like altering identity markers. According to reports, the company disregarded robots.txt files and crawler interception rules, modifying user agent (UA) and autonomous system number (ASN) information to bypass blocks. This activity reportedly involves tens of thousands of domain names and results in millions of requests daily. In response, Perplexity dismissed the accusations as a "sales gimmick" and denied accessing the prohibited content. Notably, the company has also faced previous accusations of plagiarizing media content.
