A recent survey conducted by the American nonprofit organization Common Sense Media has unveiled intriguing insights: 72% of teenagers aged 13 to 17 have engaged with AI chatbots, with 52% of them being frequent users. These AI companions serve as a source for advice, companionship, and emotional support. However, amidst their widespread adoption, concerns regarding safety and potential mental health risks are on the rise. Notably, 34% of teenage users have reported encounters where their AI companions made them feel uncomfortable. In light of these findings, the organization advises against the use of AI companions by teenagers under 18 until more robust protective measures are established.
