Among these recruits is the ex-engineering head of the Gemini chatbot, among others. This strategic maneuver by Microsoft is perceived as a bold offensive aimed at disrupting its competitors' R&D pathways and expediting its own layout, thereby intensifying the fierce battle for AI talent among tech titans. Suleyman had previously raided DeepMind for talent to establish Microsoft's AI healthcare division last year. In retaliation to this competitive pressure, Google has undertaken a reorganization of its AI operations. Leading AI talents prioritize resources and freedom, positioning companies with substantial computing power at an advantageous position in recruitment. Microsoft recently trimmed its workforce by 9,100 to streamline operations and reallocate funds towards its transition towards artificial intelligence.
