Christian Klein, the Chief Executive Officer of European tech giant SAP, declared that Europe does not need to engage in a race to build colossal data centers in the pursuit of artificial intelligence dominance. Klein contends that the training of large language models is inching towards becoming a "commodity," citing DeepSeek as a prime example where exceptional outcomes are attainable with minimal computational resources. He urges Europe to concentrate on the practical application of AI in sectors like automotive and chemicals, eschewing the blind imitation of the US's infrastructure investment strategy. In stark contrast to the US's $500 billion "Star Gate" investment initiative and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang's plan to bolster European computing capabilities, the European Union has modestly proposed a €20 billion fund aimed at establishing five AI superfactories. Klein stressed that SAP will prioritize delivering AI solutions tailored to various industries, abstaining from involvement in the operation or financing of massive data centers.
