Google has reportedly dismissed approximately 200 employees within its global commerce division, reflecting a strategic shift in its expenditure priorities in recent years. This shift has been towards data centers and AI development, aimed at bolstering collaboration and service capabilities. Prior to this latest round of layoffs, Google had already reduced its workforce in the platforms and devices division by hundreds of employees. Additionally, the company plans to eliminate 12,000 positions in January 2023, accounting for 6% of its global workforce. By the end of 2024, Google anticipates its total headcount to reach 183,323.
