On April 22, the Shanghai Municipal Government convened a press conference to showcase advancements in bolstering the city's intellectual property rights ecosystem through high-caliber reforms and openness. Notably, Shanghai now endorses the utilization of the expedited pre-examination pathway for AI-related patent applications that fulfill specific criteria, aiming to accelerate their authorization process. Building upon these efforts, Shanghai has further fortified the entire spectrum of intellectual property rights—encompassing creation, utilization, protection, management, and services—in 2024, yielding impressive outcomes. Specifically, there has been a 15.3% surge in the number of high-value invention patents per 10,000 individuals and a 10.3% uptick in PCT international patent applications. Moreover, Shanghai has established a dedicated AI intellectual property protection committee to fortify protection within this burgeoning field.
