Musk's artificial intelligence venture, xAI, has found itself ensnared in a contentious trademark dispute regarding the moniker of its chatbot, Grok. The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has put a halt to xAI's trademark application for Grok, citing its striking resemblance to the names of AI chip manufacturer Groq and software provider Grokstream. Furthermore, the tech startup Bizly asserts its ownership of the Grok name, complicating matters further.
Bizly and xAI appear to have arrived at the name independently, with Bizly's founders affirming that they filed a trademark application for the name in 2021 and intended to introduce an AI application under the same name. However, the launch of xAI's product with the identical name has allegedly jeopardized Bizly's funding prospects, pushing the company to the precipice of insolvency.
