On November 6, Yonhap News Agency reported that against the backdrop of stock market turbulence triggered by regulatory concerns over AI data centers following the U.S. midterm elections, South Korea's Ministry of Economy and Finance convened a symposium with semiconductor experts to review related industry trends and future demand prospects. Participants broadly concluded that, given factors such as the progress of large-scale investments by major AI companies and their future plans, as well as the expansion of semiconductor demand driven by the widespread adoption of agentic AI, the medium- to long-term growth expectations for the AI and semiconductor industries remain valid. They concluded that despite some concerns in financial markets, no obvious signals have been detected that would cause AI investment or semiconductor demand to shrink. In addition, considering factors such as the expansion of long-term supply contracts by South Korean domestic semiconductor companies, the demand base is expected to remain stable in the short term.
