On November 6, South Korea's KOSPI plunged more than 8%, triggering a circuit breaker that halted trading for 20 minutes — the 11th such trigger in the country's securities market this year. After the circuit breaker was lifted, the market then activated a temporary trading halt mechanism suspending program-trading sell orders. The KOSPI once again fell below the 5,000-point mark, having last done so on February 6. Analysts attribute the sell-off to concerns that, following the Democratic Party's victory in the U.S. midterm elections, artificial intelligence data center projects may face regulatory risks — fears that set off a massive sell-off in U.S. technology stocks and dragged the KOSPI sharply lower.
