Airbnb plans to launch an AI travel agent tailored specifically for tourism scenarios in the first half of 2027—a key strategic move in its push toward multimodal interactive applications in the vertical domain. Addressing the pain point that general-purpose AI chatbots struggle to handle in-depth travel planning, the agent will use generative user interface technology and, drawing on insights the platform has accumulated over the years, dynamically call upon hundreds of dedicated interface components to assemble and present information in combinations that meet users' browsing, comparison, and decision-making needs. Its functions will span listings and hotel bookings, and it will deeply enhance the platform's Services and Experiences section, providing end-to-end assistance throughout the entire journey. Meanwhile, Airbnb reported strong third-quarter results, with total revenue up 19% year over year to US$4.87 billion, beating Wall Street expectations, and the company raised its full-year 2026 revenue growth forecast to more than 15%. Industry analysts believe that generative AI is accelerating its penetration into vertical, in-depth experiences, and that major platforms are racing to secure the ecological high ground for the next wave of consumer-grade intelligent agents by building proprietary interactive interfaces and strengthening service closed loops.
