Anthropic has announced a rename of its Claude subscription tiers: the former Max 5x plan is now called Max at $100 per month, while the former Max 20x plan is now Ultra at $200 per month. Existing subscribers don't need to do anything—pricing and benefits stay the same, and the new names will take effect automatically. With this change, personal subscription plans now fall into four tiers: Free, Pro, Max, and Ultra. Meanwhile, Anthropic has started lifting the 5-hour usage limit for verified Ultra accounts, with most existing subscribers benefiting first. Newly registered Ultra accounts will temporarily remain subject to the 5-hour cap and will receive an email notification once the limit is removed after they complete account verification. The rename aims to clear up the confusion caused by the multiplier labels in the original names—specifically, preventing new users from mistakenly assuming that both the 5-hour and weekly allowances are 20 times those of Pro. After the adjustment, verified Ultra users can use the product continuously until they hit their weekly allowance, and this plan's weekly limit remains 10 times that of Pro. This change does not increase the total weekly allowance; it only changes how that allowance can be used. The $100-per-month Max plan has only been renamed—its 5-hour and weekly usage caps remain at 5 times those of Pro.
