On October 31, the Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the matter, that Blackstone Group has informed investors that Anthropic may not secure an investment-grade credit rating immediately upon going public. Instead, it is now expected to receive a double-B rating or above—a shift from Blackstone's previous assessment that the company would obtain investment-grade status before year-end. Because some insurers and pension funds operate under investment restrictions and find it difficult to hold junk-rated debt on a large scale, Anthropic's future financing channels may be constrained, and the company may need to continue relying on high-credit-rated suppliers to support its debt financing.
