French AI company Mistral AI released its Large 4 model (ML4) on Thursday, featuring advanced programming and cyber defense capabilities that enterprises can deploy to run on their own computers and servers. The model was trained in Mistral's European data center using 3,800 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs, with a total parameter count of 1.05 trillion and approximately 52 billion parameters actually activated per task. Mistral claims that ML4 achieves industry-leading performance while using only a small fraction of the computing power and capital employed by closed-source AI companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic.
