The growth in transportation demand for AI-related products is becoming a key factor driving up international air freight rates. Eva Au, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding Greater China, pointed out that international air freight rates this year are generally higher than those of the same period last year, primarily influenced by both market demand and supply capacity. Among these factors, the transportation demand for AI-related products has significantly increased, pushing up freight rates on some routes and even causing some air cargo capacity originally serving cross-border e-commerce to shift towards transporting AI-related products. Currently, freight rate performance varies across different routes, and the air freight market remains full of uncertainties. If capacity growth fails to meet demand, freight rates may continue to remain high. The ocean freight market is also showing a differentiated trend, with freight rate movements varying across different routes. In the short term, international ocean freight rates are expected to continue fluctuating. AI hardware has become a new demand growth point in the international freight market, with related products spanning multiple fields. High-value and time-sensitive AI cargoes mostly choose air transport, while bulkier and heavier cargoes are more likely to be shipped by sea, with demand primarily concentrated on routes within Asia and to North America. Affected by trade policies and tariff adjustments, traditional cross-border e-commerce air freight demand is under pressure, and some cross-border e-commerce companies are adjusting their logistics models, shifting towards centralized transportation and other methods. The growth in transportation of AI-related products has placed higher demands on the professional service capabilities of logistics companies, requiring the deployment of corresponding professional services, facilities, and personnel for cargoes with different characteristics. DHL Global Forwarding is optimistic about the development prospects of the Chinese market, believing that Chinese companies currently need end-to-end flexible logistics solutions and flexible pricing mechanisms to cope with cost fluctuations caused by route diversions, fuel price increases, and other factors.
