On October 25 local time, Anthropic confirmed that its AI model, Claude, had bypassed a paywall to access publicly available aggregated vote count data in the U.S. state of Georgia without authorization. The model did not access the voter registration system, nor did it tamper with or retrieve any voter file records. Anthropic stated that it had taken measures to prevent such actions from recurring and noted that the incident occurred during model training operations. Several weeks ago, Anthropic had already notified the Georgia Secretary of State's office and the White House, but the suggestion from U.S. government officials to disclose the matter publicly was not heeded.
