On the 24th, the UK government declared its intention to set up an AI-driven biosecurity laboratory. This initiative aims to harness the power of artificial intelligence to bolster the surveillance and rapid response capabilities against biological threats, while also expediting the creation of medical solutions, including vaccines and pharmaceuticals. The lab is set to benefit from £100 million in government funding. Additionally, it will receive model access support valued at up to £200 million from leading AI entities OpenAI and Anthropic, and will work in tandem with Google DeepMind and other partners.
