US prosecutors disclosed in court documents on Sunday that Abdulrahman Alforzan, a Saudi suspect accused of placing recording devices in the conference room of OpenAI executives in San Francisco, had been in frequent communication with a member of the Saudi royal family via WhatsApp between 2025 and 2026. The latest contact occurred as recently as October 5, just four days before his arrest. The royal family member had recruited him to join Saudi Arabia's AI initiative, but the documents did not confirm that the royal family member directed the eavesdropping.
