Actor Wu Yue took to social media to voice her strong disapproval after discovering that someone had employed AI face-swapping technology to impersonate her in live commerce activities for financial gain. Moreover, the same accounts were found to have posted AI-generated videos mimicking Deng Yaping, another well-known public figure, also for live commerce purposes. Despite the fact that these videos were labeled as AI-generated, the involved accounts were still permanently banned by WeChat Channels. Earlier, WeChat Channels had already put in place a standardized control mechanism to oversee AI-generated and synthetic content. Additionally, the Cyberspace Administration of China had initiated a targeted campaign, identifying behaviors such as using AI-synthesized fake audio and video to impersonate public figures for false endorsement marketing as key areas requiring rectification. The administration urged platforms to rigorously fulfill their review duties and prevent the dissemination of non-compliant content from the outset.
