Microsoft has revamped its approach to AI integration in Office applications. Rather than embedding Copilot mainly within individual Office apps, Microsoft now offers a comprehensive suite of creation, editing, and collaboration tools for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint—all centered around the new Copilot application. This means users no longer need to toggle between different Office applications. Instead, they can start tasks with a simple prompt in Copilot Chat or through Copilot Cowork, and then directly create and manage Office files within Copilot itself. Users have the flexibility to either direct the AI to modify content or manually fine-tune it using familiar Office editing tools. They can also share files, add comments, and engage in real-time collaboration with others—all from within the application. Additionally, the new Copilot version includes a Library section for a centralized view of relevant file content. All Office files continue to be stored in OneDrive, maintaining their original formats, comments, sharing settings, and version history. Users can manually select the AI model for their Office tasks or enable Auto mode, which lets Copilot automatically choose the most suitable model based on the task at hand.
