On October 12, reports emerged that Piyush Gupta, CEO of DBS Group, commented on the evolving landscape of AI infrastructure investments. According to Gupta, the market is currently undergoing a reassessment of the risks tied to AI investments, potentially ushering in a more cautious financing environment for AI ventures. He highlighted that the market has been sending out signals, suggesting that investors are now seeking higher returns and are scrutinizing financing structures more closely.

Gupta further elaborated that the market is scrutinizing whether the significant capital funneled into the AI capital expenditure ecosystem can yield sufficient long-term returns to service debts, bonds, or provide adequate rewards to equity investors. DBS holds the view that certain weaker companies might encounter the risk of credit rating downgrades. Nevertheless, Gupta regarded this risk re-pricing as a "healthy" development, as the market endeavors to ensure that large-scale AI investments are sustainable and capable of generating long-term profitability.

He disclosed that DBS has been involved in AI-related transactions amounting to roughly USD 20 billion this year, predominantly serving as the lead arranger for syndicated loans. Notably, the bank has retained only a minor portion of the risk exposure for itself.
