Meta, Sierra, Genesys, Instinct, Rocket, Shopify, Stripe, and Walmart have come together to introduce an open standard known as the "Personal Agent Protocol," which is constructed on the OAuth framework. This protocol encompasses three distinct access methods: websites, APIs, and enterprise agents. Its primary objective is to assist businesses in recognizing and granting authorization to AI agents that act on behalf of users. This, in turn, facilitates user authentication and transaction authorization for personal AI agents across various platforms. The protocol specification v0.1 is anticipated to be formally released by the end of October 2026. Notably, OpenAI and Anthropic have not yet become part of this initiative.
