Google has just launched the Nano Banana 2.1 image generation model, which is built upon the Gemini 3.6 Flash architecture. This innovative model outperforms its premium counterpart, the Nano Banana Pro, in several key performance areas. It offers advanced features such as masked local editing and the ability to utilize up to 14 reference images to maintain subject consistency. Moreover, it directly supports the generation of images with resolutions up to 4K. Notably, the cost of generating images with Nano Banana 2.1 is merely half that of its predecessor, securing it the fourth position on the Arena multi-image editing leaderboard, trailing just behind OpenAI's trio of GPT Image products. At present, the model is being progressively deployed across various Google platforms. Its image generation capabilities have witnessed a substantial enhancement, coupled with a reduction in the cost of image generation. However, it's worth mentioning that the prices for text and cognitive-related services have seen an uptick. Practical tests have demonstrated that the model excels in real-world applications, particularly in tasks involving image modification.
