The spatial intelligence enterprise World Labs, established just two years ago, has been acquired by chip giant AMD for $8.2 billion in an all-stock deal. Its founder, Li Feifei, will join AMD as executive vice president and chief scientist. World Labs' core product can transform photos, videos, or text into interactive 3D scenes, focusing on technologies related to spatial intelligence and world models. This acquisition represents a strategic investment by AMD to position itself for the next generation of AI computing power needs, participating in advance in the formation of new demands such as robotics and simulations related to world models, rather than being based on its current revenue. The transaction allows early investors to exit quickly and realize gains, while company employees are also expected to receive substantial returns due to their equity holdings.
