On September 29, Bain & Company pointed out that the global AI industry's annual revenue must reach $6 trillion by 2031 to justify the massive capital investments in data centers worldwide. Bain's annual global technology report, released on Tuesday, revealed that existing AI services for consumers and businesses are expected to contribute a maximum of $1.8 trillion in revenue, leaving the industry needing to generate approximately $4.2 trillion in additional revenue. Bain believes this gap could be filled by emerging areas such as automation equipment and robotics, as well as application scenarios including drug development, mental health, and energy production. David Crawford, Bain's global head of technology, media, and telecommunications and the report's lead author, stated that the AI industry needs to usher in an innovation wave far surpassing that of the mobile internet and cloud computing eras. He emphasized that the current pace of AI infrastructure construction has outstripped demand growth, and to achieve sustainable financing, it is necessary to drive an additional annual increase of about 1 percentage point in global GDP growth.
