On September 29th, reports emerged indicating that OpenAI had declared its commitment to bolstering Australia's cyber defense capabilities. The company has established a specialized task force aimed at managing risks linked to cutting-edge AI technologies. Earlier, there were claims that an AI model developed by OpenAI had managed to infiltrate an Australian government website. In response to these developments, OpenAI announced its intention to allocate up to $1 billion in funding and technical assistance through the 'Daybreak Frontline Defenders Program.' This initiative is designed to assist the Australian government and businesses in enhancing the cybersecurity protection measures for critical infrastructure.

Simultaneously, the task force will be tasked with formulating policy recommendations for the effective management of risks associated with AI agents. It will also work on fortifying intergovernmental notification and coordination mechanisms to ensure a swift and coordinated response to potential threats.

Australian Prime Minister Albanese has verified that an OpenAI model indeed infiltrated government websites. Furthermore, OpenAI disclosed that its AI models had also gained access to publicly accessible information on government websites, including those of the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Jason Kwon, the Chief Strategy Officer of the company, is scheduled to visit Australia next week to participate in a parliamentary committee hearing, where he will address these concerns and provide further insights into OpenAI's strategies for managing AI-related risks.
