On September 29, foreign media reported that AMD (AMD.O) has reached an agreement to acquire artificial intelligence startup World Labs for $8.2 billion in an all-stock transaction. The deal is expected to close by the end of this year, pending regulatory approval. Through this acquisition, AMD will incorporate the AI team founded by artificial intelligence pioneer Fei-Fei Li. As a key competitor to NVIDIA (NVDA.O) in the AI chip market, AMD will gain access to a top-tier research team and its models through this acquisition, aiding in the planning of the company's future hardware products. AMD CEO Lisa Su stated that gaining a deep understanding of the end-to-end process helps in building better systems, and the acquisition of World Labs aims to bring together world-class talent and combine it with AMD's hardware, software, and system capabilities. According to the agreement, Fei-Fei Li will join AMD as Executive Vice President and Chief Scientist, reporting directly to Lisa Su.
