On September 29th, Anthropic made an official announcement, introducing its latest AI model, Claude Sonnet 5.5. Reports indicate that this new model operates over 30% faster than its forerunner, Sonnet 5, and slashes task execution costs by as much as 30%. Positioned as a mid-tier offering within the Claude 5.5 family, Claude Sonnet 5.5 is tailored for routine work tasks, code debugging, and the creation of documents, presentations, and spreadsheets. In performance evaluations, Sonnet 5.5 shone brightly, notably achieving a 70.6% score in the Terminal-Bench 4.0 code test, a significant leap from Sonnet 5's 10.3%. Moreover, the model exhibited substantial improvements in long-term task management, image interpretation, and knowledge-based work.
In terms of pricing, Sonnet 5.5 retains the same pricing model as Sonnet 5, with charges of $2 per million input tokens, $10 per million output tokens, and $0.2 per million tokens for cache reads. Nevertheless, Anthropic asserts that, thanks to the model's enhanced efficiency, the actual cost of tasks can be decreased by up to 30%. A notable aspect of Sonnet 5.5 is its substantial security enhancements, marking the first inclusion of cybersecurity safeguards from high-performance models in the Sonnet series. Presently, the model is officially accessible on the Claude platform and is compatible with various leading cloud platforms, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
