Harsha Konduri, General Manager of AI Business at Google for the Asia-Pacific and Japan regions, remarked that the pace of AI adoption in Asia has significantly outstripped projections, spreading rapidly within a mere two years. In contrast, the widespread adoption of cloud computing took over a decade to achieve. The prior assumption that AI adoption rates in Asia lagged behind other markets is now proven to be inaccurate. Indeed, Asia may represent the fastest-growing region for Google Cloud's business, with its contribution to Google's AI business revenue now ranking second globally. Some Asian businesses are even nearing the levels seen in North America. However, Asian companies exhibit greater caution in adopting AI, placing a stronger emphasis on security considerations. Furthermore, Konduri anticipates that companies' focus on AI costs will continue to intensify, noting that only a minority of tasks truly necessitate the use of top-tier models.
