On September 20th, Step AI unveiled its new-generation flagship base model, Step 5 Preview. This model adopts a sparse Mixture of Experts (MoE) architecture, with a total of 600 billion parameters and only 27 billion active parameters. It supports a context window of 1 million tokens and natively accommodates both text and visual inputs. Step 5 Preview is primarily designed for scenarios such as AI programming, software engineering, professional knowledge work, and finance, aiming to enhance the model's comprehensive performance in real-world Agentic tasks. In the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index (AA Comprehensive Intelligence Index), Step 5 Preview scored 44 points, ranking among the top three global open-source models. Step AI plans to officially open-source the model on October 15th.
