The Tangdu Hospital, affiliated with the Air Force Medical University, has recently achieved a medical milestone by performing the first fully invasive brain-computer interface implantation surgery in western China. The recipient of this groundbreaking procedure is a 54-year-old female patient who has been quadriplegic for over three years due to a cervical spinal cord injury. Following the surgery, there is optimism that she will be able to control external devices using her thoughts, thereby gradually regaining her ability to engage with the outside world. The surgical team meticulously pinpointed the brain's motor function area and implanted electrodes to capture neural electrical signals. Post-surgery, the patient will embark on a personalized brain-control training regimen, with the aim of achieving thought-controlled operation of devices such as computer cursors and wheelchairs, marking a significant step forward in the field of neurorehabilitation.
