On September 18, 2026, Lu Lei, the Deputy Governor of the People's Bank of China, addressed the China-ASEAN Financial Cooperation and Development Forum, pointing out that the new wave of artificial intelligence technologies, exemplified by large-scale models and intelligent agents, not only enhances financial services but also introduces novel risks. These include the opacity of algorithmic decision-making processes, often referred to as "algorithmic black boxes," and the generation of inaccurate or misleading information by AI models, known as "model hallucinations." The People's Bank of China is keen on fostering closer collaboration with ASEAN nations to collectively evaluate these risks and enhance joint efforts in the development and sharing of AI infrastructure tailored for financial applications.
