On September 16, SoftBank Group's credit default swap (CDS) price approached a three-year high as traders assessed the potential impact of its financing plans for OpenAI, a key investment target. According to data provider CMA, SoftBank's five-year CDS was quoted at approximately 383.2 basis points, near its highest level since 2023. Currently, SoftBank has committed $64.6 billion to OpenAI, which is engaged in early-stage negotiations with investors for a new funding round ahead of its planned initial public offering (IPO), expected to value the company at over $1.2 trillion. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman previously stated that the company's long-awaited IPO remains in preparation but will not occur this year.
