NVIDIA has made an official announcement that it is set to acquire Hugging Face, a pivotal infrastructure provider within the AI sector, in a transaction valued at $12.93 billion. Originally established as a chatbot firm, Hugging Face standardized model interfaces and seamlessly integrated them into developers' workflows through the introduction of the Transformers open-source library. Subsequently, leveraging its Hub platform, the company embedded features such as model publishing, discovery, modification, and redistribution into the development process, thereby constructing a developer network centered on open models. Presently, Hugging Face has emerged as an AI infrastructure akin to GitHub, drawing in over 18 million developers, hosting a repository of more than 3 million models, and enabling AI-related endeavors for over 200,000 companies via its platform.

Previously, Hugging Face had secured investments from a multitude of rival companies, including industry giants Google and Amazon, and was appraised at $4.5 billion. This acquisition was initiated by Hugging Face itself. Both entities have affirmed that they will preserve its open and independent nature, refraining from tying it to a specific computing platform, and that the founding team will persist in their roles.
