In mid-August, DeepSeek launched DeepSeek Harness (DSH), an official companion client that initially only supported a web interface. The client quickly garnered over 100,000 Stars on GitHub. Since the official desktop version had not yet been released, community developers spontaneously created multiple third-party versions. However, the main branch of the official repository has now added a desktop directory, which will support macOS (including Apple Silicon and Intel versions) and Windows x64 platforms, but not Linux for now. After the official release, users are expected to be able to download the installation package from download.deepseek.com. Compared to third-party versions, the official desktop version transmits data through a custom protocol, offering higher security. It is also packaged as a whole for easier maintenance and delivers better performance. DSH is jointly optimized with the V4.1 Flash version, delivering peak performance in minimal mode and achieving higher cache hit rates. Additionally, there has been debate among netizens regarding the selection of chain of thought (Chain-of-Thought) levels in V4.1 Flash. The Max level is suitable for highly challenging tasks but consumes significant resources. For everyday use, the High and Low levels are sufficient, saving both time and costs.
