Ant International has recently forged a partnership with Visa and Mastercard, with the shared goal of jointly formulating new standards for AI-driven payments. As part of this initiative, they have unveiled an interoperability framework called 'Know-Your-Agent' (KYA). This framework zeroes in on three pivotal components: the traceability of cross-network operators, shared authentication protocols, and the ongoing monitoring of transactions. Its primary objective is to simplify the onboarding and identification procedures for AI agents, thereby facilitating the recognition of reliable AI agents across various ecosystems. The three entities will work in tandem through the BuildFin.ai platform, which is operated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. In the past, each organization adhered to its own set of protocols. However, this collaborative effort aims to explore the possibility of harmonizing these protocols around common principles. According to McKinsey's projections, by 2030, AI agents will be responsible for processing global consumer and commercial transactions worth between USD 3 trillion and USD 5 trillion. All parties involved underscore the critical role of trust in the widespread adoption and development of AI-based payment systems. At present, Visa and Mastercard hold sway over transactions in developed economies, whereas developing economies exhibit a preference for e-wallets. Ant International, on the other hand, boasts a vast network of partner e-wallets and operates the Alipay+ system. It is anticipated that by 2025, digital wallets will command a 56% share of the global e-commerce value and a 33% share of the point-of-sale value, reflecting consumer spending that surpasses USD 13 trillion.
