On September 7 (local time), Sarah Friar, the Chief Financial Officer of OpenAI, disclosed that the company is vigorously foraying into vertical sectors, including chip design, life sciences, and financial services. Moreover, it is implementing price reduction strategies to stay competitive against open-source and open-weight models. Concurrently, OpenAI is experimenting with a novel pricing model that hinges on the actual effectiveness of AI applications, aiming to align with enterprises' expectations for a return on investment.

Friar also highlighted that OpenAI's in-house-developed 'Jalapeno' chip accomplished its design and transitioned into the tape-out phase within a mere nine months. Furthermore, following an 80% price cut for the company's budget-friendly Luna model, its usage skyrocketed by roughly ten times. The enterprise revenue witnessed a 32% uptick between June and July, surpassing the overall annualized revenue growth rate of 20% during the same timeframe. Notably, the number of Codex users has soared to 25 million.
