The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), in partnership with six other key departments, has unveiled the Implementation Plan for Promoting the Coordinated Transformation and Development of Digitalization and Greening (2026-2030). The plan outlines a clear vision: by 2030, artificial intelligence (AI) will fully harness its inherent strengths—cost-efficiency and high productivity—to drive green and low-carbon technological innovation and industrial growth. It anticipates a marked improvement in the energy efficiency of emerging sectors, such as computing infrastructure and 5G base stations, with the aim of elevating renewable energy consumption in these areas to align with the energy consumption responsibility weights set for their respective provinces. Simultaneously, the plan emphasizes the acceleration of digital and green transitions across critical sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, trade, consumption, and urban management. Digital and intelligent technologies are expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing ecological and environmental governance, thereby providing robust support for the comprehensive green transformation and high-quality development of China’s economy and society.
