As reported by Wired magazine, OpenAI made an announcement last Friday, revealing its intention to progressively wind down its partnership with the AI programming tool, Cursor. The contract is scheduled to officially conclude on November 12. OpenAI cited that since Cursor has been acquired by Musk's SpaceX for a staggering $60 billion, and considering past instances where Musk's companies have breached contracts, it cannot guarantee that SpaceX will rigorously comply with the terms of service when utilizing the technology. Established in 2022, Cursor's flagship product is an AI code editor, and it once stood as a significant client for OpenAI. OpenAI expressed that after nearly four years of collaboration with Cursor, it holds great respect for the team and their products. However, due to the compliance risks that have arisen following the change in control, OpenAI has made the decision to terminate the partnership at the latest feasible date permitted by the contract.
