In May 2026, Google unveiled its latest innovation, Google Pics, at the I/O Developer Conference. This cutting-edge generative AI image creation and editing tool is seamlessly integrated into Google Workspace, positioning it as a formidable competitor to Canva, Adobe Express, and Microsoft Designer.
Built upon the sophisticated Nano Banana model, Google Pics empowers users to generate designs effortlessly through intuitive text or voice commands, providing multiple version options to cater to diverse creative needs. Its standout feature is its local editability, enabling users to simply hover over and select specific image elements for modification. Moreover, text within the images can be edited directly, eliminating the need to regenerate the entire image from scratch.
Once users have finalized their designs, they have the flexibility to export them in popular JPG and PNG formats, facilitating easy printing or sharing. Currently, Google Pics is accessible as a web application, with plans underway to launch a dedicated mobile app and seamlessly integrate it into more Workspace applications in the near future. This innovative tool is available free of charge to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, as well as the majority of Workspace enterprise customers.
