On June 14th of this year, developer Karl Kahn initiated a class-action lawsuit against Anthropic. He claimed that after subscribing to Claude's most premium personal plan, Max 20x, he found that the actual usage was merely 6 to 8 times that of the Pro plan, significantly lower than the advertised 20-fold increase. Claude's paid plans are governed by two restrictions: a 5-hour rolling window and a weekly total quota. The purported 20-fold increase is only applicable at the 5-hour window level. However, when considering the weekly quota, Max 20x provides only about twice the amount of Max 5x. Moreover, Anthropic did not disclose the absolute Token counts for each plan, leaving users unable to verify the claimed rate. In March 2026, a bug surfaced in Claude Code, leading to abnormal spikes in Token consumption. Anthropic failed to respond promptly or announce a compensation plan. In stark contrast, OpenAI's Pro 20x plan offers exactly 20 times the weekly usage of Plus, without any 5-hour window restrictions. Previously, when OpenAI encountered a similar bug, it not only rectified the issue but also disclosed relevant details and fully reset the quotas for paid users. Currently, Anthropic has not issued a public response to the lawsuit, and the court has yet to deliver any substantive rulings.
