On August 31, the European Commission formally included ChatGPT, Reddit, and Roblox within the regulatory purview of the Digital Services Act. Given that each of these platforms boasts an average monthly active user base surpassing 45 million within the EU, they fulfill the statutory criteria for regulation. Specifically, ChatGPT has been categorized as an extremely sizable online search engine, whereas Reddit and Roblox have been designated as exceptionally large online platforms. Following their inclusion on the list, the involved companies are now mandated to adhere to more stringent obligations. These encompass risk assessment protocols and content moderation guidelines. These platforms are afforded a four-month transitional phase, extending until the end of December 2026, to fulfill the supplementary compliance mandates. It is worth noting that prior to this, all three platforms were already subject to the general statutory obligations stipulated by the Act.
