On August 30, Kang Hun-sik, Head of the Presidential Secretariat in South Korea, revealed that President Lee Jae-myung had put forth nominations for the new cabinet, encompassing several key ministerial roles and the Vice Chairperson of the National AI Strategy Committee.
Among the nominees, Lee Hyung-il, currently serving as the First Vice Minister of Economy and Finance, has been tapped to become the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance. Kim Seung-won, a member of the ruling Democratic Party, has been nominated for the post of Minister of Justice. Kang Shin-chul, former Deputy Commander of the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command, is set to become the Minister of National Defense. Meanwhile, Hong Ji-sun, presently the First Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, has been nominated as the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Lee Hae-min, a lawmaker from the People Power Party, has been nominated for the role of Chief Secretary for AI Future Planning at the Presidential Secretariat, and Ha Jeong-woo, the former Chief Secretary for AI Future Planning at the Blue House, has been nominated as the Vice Chairperson of the National AI Strategy Committee.
Kang Hun-sik emphasized that these personnel changes are intended to steer the transformation of South Korean society and foster national progress.
