The Debian community has completed voting on a proposal regarding the use of large language models in development, adopting the Condorcet voting system. Ultimately, the option to 'responsibly use generative AI' emerged victorious. The new policy permits the use of generative AI in development and documentation, acknowledging its potential to enhance productivity. However, it mandates that AI-generated code and documentation must meet quality and compliance standards, with ultimate responsibility resting with human developers. Meanwhile, contributors are not required to label whether AI was used, but are merely encouraged to disclose it.
