Tang Daosheng, Senior Executive Vice President of Tencent Group and CEO of its Cloud and Smart Industries Group, published an article in an internal publication, addressing external assessments claiming that “Tencent is lagging in AI development”. He acknowledged that the global race for large-scale AI models is intense, with competitors excelling in the business-to-business (ToB) sector. Coupled with Tencent's own insufficient computing resources, there is indeed a sense of internal urgency. Nevertheless, he posits that the AI race is more akin to a marathon, where endurance outweighs the significance of an early start. At present, the industry is still in its infancy, with both the competitive landscape and business models yet to take shape.
Tang Daosheng emphasized that AI implementation should not solely hinge on large-scale models. While algorithms set the upper limits, engineering capabilities dictate the pace of implementation, and real-world scenarios represent Tencent's core strength. He disclosed that the new-generation Hunyuan Hy4 model is poised to achieve even greater breakthroughs. Furthermore, he shared insights into Tencent's AI application strategies, citing products like CodeBuddy and WorkBuddy, which have undergone rapid iterations by capitalizing on AI opportunities built upon past technological foundations. Yuanbao, another Tencent product, has enhanced user retention by refining its core functionalities.
Tang Daosheng also expounded on Tencent's enterprise AI application framework, which emphasizes the coexistence and synergy of personal AI agents and service AI agents. He noted that AI is reshaping organizational structures, fostering cross-departmental collaboration within AI-native organizations and deep integration in model product development. He underscored the importance of maintaining a long-term perspective and a people-centric approach, leveraging technology to address real-world challenges and create value for users. Additionally, he advised individuals to concentrate on areas within their sphere of influence and to press forward with unwavering determination.
