As reported by Bloomberg, on August 24 (local time), Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, disclosed on the social media platform X that the inaugural batch of AI satellites, outfitted with Nvidia chips, is slated for launch in the final quarter of the upcoming year. The goal is to achieve a large-scale deployment by 2028. Musk divulged that these satellites will utilize the Vera Rubin NVL72 system, a collaborative design with Nvidia, tailored specifically for the space environment. This system is distinguished by its simplicity, cost-effectiveness, high density, and lightweight nature. It will introduce computing capabilities into space, with each satellite being equipped with Nvidia's Rubin GPU and Vera CPU to drive the next generation of artificial intelligence tasks for intelligent agents.
