New York has overtaken the San Francisco Bay Area to emerge as North America's premier tech talent hub, though the Bay Area hasn't completely relinquished its leading edge. This shift is largely attributed to the burgeoning demand for AI talent on Wall Street, which is reshaping the competitive landscape of the tech job market. According to CBRE's "2026 Tech Talent Assessment Report," the New York metropolitan area witnessed an increase of 30,640 tech professionals from 2022 to 2025, bringing the total number to 394,300. Conversely, the San Francisco Bay Area experienced a decrease of 23,900, with its total now standing at 375,730. This marks the inaugural occasion in 13 years that New York has claimed the top spot in the report for the number of tech talents.
