On August 20 (local time; August 21, Beijing time), Google revealed that downloads of its open-source edge model family, Gemma, have exceeded 1 billion. Over the past two years, developers have created and released more than 100,000 variations of the Gemma model, fostering an innovative ecosystem referred to as the "Gemmaverse." This model family has found diverse applications, spanning areas such as space imagery analysis, medical report digitization, cancer research, and animal language recognition. To commemorate this milestone, Google has launched the Awesome Gemma code repository on GitHub, which showcases high-quality community projects, finely tuned models, tutorials, and developer tools.
