On August 18, Alphabet, the parent company of Google, announced its intention to issue Australian dollar (AUD)-denominated bonds with four distinct maturity periods, one of which includes a 20-year bond. Sources close to the matter have indicated that this financing move is projected to raise approximately AUD 5 billion (equivalent to around USD 3.6 billion).

Previously, Alphabet had revised its capital expenditure forecast for the year upwards to USD 205 billion, a move that has reignited market discussions regarding the profitability prospects of large tech companies investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI). At present, Alphabet stands as the second-largest U.S. company, trailing only Amazon, in terms of leveraging global debt markets to fund AI initiatives.

Furthermore, Alphabet has outlined plans to issue bonds denominated in various currencies, including Swiss Franc (CHF), British Pound (GBP), Euro (EUR), Canadian Dollar (CAD), and Japanese Yen (JPY), in the year 2026.
