On August 14, sources with knowledge of the matter revealed that OpenAI’s current annualized revenue has surpassed $40 billion, nearly doubling the projected figure for the end of 2025. This robust performance has bolstered confidence in its preparations for a potential public offering. Recently, OpenAI’s revenue growth has accelerated, primarily driven by the rapid expansion of its AI programming software business. At the same time, subscription sales continue to rise, advertising revenue has begun contributing new streams of income, and the core consumer business has maintained steady growth.
In the competitive landscape, OpenAI is locked in fierce competition with enterprise AI company Anthropic for corporate clients. Both companies have discreetly submitted listing documents. Anthropic is anticipated to complete its initial public offering (IPO) as early as this fall, potentially ahead of OpenAI. Greg Brockman, co-founder and president of OpenAI, disclosed that the company’s annualized revenue in July increased by more than 20% month-over-month. Recently, the company has witnessed a significant surge in demand within the AI agent sector, with its main products including the programming tool Codex and the versatile assistant ChatGPT Work. To more agilely respond to challenges from competitors like Anthropic, OpenAI has lowered prices for some of its models.
